JOURNAL
NYC, fall 2005
I always try to get to NYC once a year. What an exciting city. My husband and I (and sometimes our daughter) typically spend hours walking and always fit in a museum visit or two. I’m always absolutely exhausted at the end of the day, wondering if I’ll be able to get out there again the next day, but a good night’s sleep does wonders.
This year we went to the new MOMA. It was packed with people there to see the fabulous collection. Love that place, but I’d recommend a visit off peak hours. The Frick, a private turn-of-the-previous-century collection of a wealthy individual, was really interesting too. The portraits are fabulous.
Of course, food played an important part of the trip. I’d recommend Klong, a well priced Thai place in the east village and Aquagrill, with amazing seafood in Greenwich village. You’ll definitely need reservations at both.
Our visit coincided with the latest terrorist alerts on the subway, but as cabs were even more difficult to come by than they usually are (I’m assuming because of the alert and the heavy rain), we had to rely on the subway, which worked out just fine.
Since my arrival home, I’ve been working on a New York series of paintings, many of them nighttime scenes.
